One Woman’s Calling. Thousands of Miles. 150+ Changed Lives.

Meet Lusye Luleh, the host home provider from Aurora, Colorado, funding a movement in Indonesia.

From Jakarta to Colorado: A Heart That Never Left Home

Lusye grew up in Sangihe, Indonesia, but what shaped Lusye wasn’t the geography, it was the children.

She watched bright young students give up on education because their families couldn’t afford school fees. She saw communities without churches, forced to worship in homes. She felt the weight of poverty crushing potential.

When Lusye moved to Aurora, Colorado, she could have left those memories behind. Instead, she carried them with her, and turned them into a mission.

“In 2010, during a quiet time of prayer, I felt God’s clear leading to serve children and communities in need. The Scripture that guided me was Matthew 5:16: ‘Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.'”

June 2010: The Day “Lusye Ministry” Was Born

Lusye didn’t start with a nonprofit structure or a board of directors. She started with one job and one calling.

Working as a caregiver at an assisted living facility in Colorado, Lusye began sending money back to Indonesia. Not for herself, but for children who needed school fees, uniforms, and books.

The First Scholarships

Lusye funded young Indonesians to pursue higher education, sending graduates to:

  • Adventist University of the Philippines (AUP)
  • Klabat University, Indonesia
  • Manado State University

Some of those students became pastors. Lusye began sponsoring their salaries so they could serve in remote communities.

This wasn’t charity. This was investment in God’s kingdom, one life at a time.

The Ministry Expands: Churches Rise from Nothing

As Lusye’s network grew, she connected with Indonesian pastors serving in desperate conditions. They sent her photos that broke her heart, and moved her to action.

📸 Pastor Donal Goni

Sent a photo of a damaged school in Tagulandang Bawoleu. Lusye Ministry renovated the entire building, giving hundreds of children a safe place to learn.

🍚 Pastor Aldi Aseng

Shared images of extreme poverty. Lusye began quarterly food distributions, consisting of rice, eggs, flour, cooking oil, sugar, and snacks to families who had nothing.

Then Came the Churches

Pastor Donny Turangan served a community so poor they worshiped in homes. They couldn’t afford to build a church. Lusye didn’t hesitate. She funded the construction of a church in Malisade Sangihe.

Then another in Minanga. Now, a third is underway in Lirung.

These aren’t just buildings. They’re worship spaces for communities that had none, gathering places where faith takes root.

Why “Shining Light Ministry”?

As the work grew beyond one person, Lusye partnered with Pastor Donal Goni and Pastor Donny Turangan to find a name that reflected the mission.

They chose Shining Light Ministry, a name rooted in Matthew 5:16 and the belief that every child, every family, every community can reflect God’s light when given the chance.

“This ministry isn’t about Lusye. It’s about Jesus shining through ordinary people doing extraordinary things.”

Shining Light Ministry Today

Fifteen years later, the ministry serves 150+ children ages 6-16 across three Indonesian locations. Every week, these kids receive:

  • Bible study that builds faith and character
  • Life skills workshops that prepare them for the future
  • Recreational activities that let them be kids
  • Educational support that keeps them in school
  • Mentorship from local pastors and volunteers

Lusye still works as a host home provider in Colorado. She still sends a major portion of her income to Indonesia. And, she still believes that every child deserves a chance to shine.

Trusted Indonesian Leadership

Lusye doesn’t run this ministry from Colorado. She partners with faithful Indonesian leaders who live in the communities they serve.

🙏 Pastor Ronald Rantung

Leads and oversees educators, counselors, and community volunteers who work directly with children and families.
